NEWNAN TO HOLD PUBLIC WORKSHOP ON ZONING MAP

For immediate release:

NEWNAN TO HOLD PUBLIC WORKSHOP ON ZONING MAP

The City of Newnan is currently in the process of updating its Zoning Ordinance and corresponding Zoning Map.  The ordinance, which was adopted in 2000, was drafted during a time when the City was experiencing significant growth and is therefore more focused on new construction.  With much of the City’s vacant land having been developed, Council determined the Zoning Ordinance and Map needs to be revised to address conditions and issues that have changed over the past 17 years.

As part of the update, the Planning Staff has been asked to review the Zoning Map for potential amendments.  In an effort to receive public comment and to answer questions regarding the map prior to the official hearings, the City will be holding a drop-in public workshop on Thursday, June 15th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Bolin City Council Chambers at City Hall.   During the workshop, citizens will be given the opportunity to discuss their individual properties, review the future land use map, and to review possible changes recommended by Staff.

“I cannot stress how important it is for our citizens to be involved in this process,” said Tracy Dunnavant, Planning and Zoning Director.  “It is their chance to provide input as to how they see their property being used in the future”.

Aside from the public workshops, citizens can also provide comments by contacting Dunnavant directly via phone or e-mail. She can be reached at (770) 254-2354 (ext. 4) or at tdunnavant@cityofnewnan.org.  In addition, the City will be holding two public hearings on both the Zoning Ordinance and the Zoning Map prior to their official adoption.
