Talking Trash: City of Newnan wants your input.
Solid Waste Management in the Downtown District
As downtown Newnan experiences commercial growth and development, the need to manage the accumulation and disposal of solid waste intensifies.
The downtown district’s unique layout, which grew out of the area’s early development, makes adjusting to contemporary business growth especially challenging. The existing historic street grid creates distinctive conditions that require specific attention.
The City of Newnan, in partnership with the Downtown Development Authority, has initiated a review of potential solutions aimed at creating a more inviting, clean and prosperous commercial district.
According to Hasco Craver, “An effort to manage the accumulation and disposal of solid waste in the downtown district is going to require tremendous coordination between numerous stakeholder groups. The City of Newnan recognizes the inherent complexities of introducing a new system. However, it is in the community’s best interest to remain steadfast in our desire to improve the conditions of the downtown district. It is my hope that all interested stakeholders, including business owners, property owners and citizens alike consider attending one or more of the upcoming public meetings, which are designed to gather input on a proposed solution.”
The City of Newnan will be hosting three (3) public meetings at various times (see meeting schedule below). The meetings will be held in the Richard Bolin Council Chambers at Newnan City Hall located at 25 LaGrange Street.
