NEW APPLICATION PROCESS FOR NEWNAN URBAN REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY (NURA) PAINT DAY; IMPACT ON COMMUNITY
NEWNAN, GA, MAY 10 - Each year, the Newnan Urban Redevelopment Agency (NURA) committee selects a home or property to help improve as an outreach effort intended to lend a helping hand. This year, the agency will be accepting applications for the fall 2019 Paint Day until August 30, 2019.
"The agency is hoping to garner an even greater impact on the community by introducing this program to those who may not be familiar with this great opportunity," said Chris Cole, city planner and Paint Day project manager for the City of Newnan.
The Paint Day Program provides painting and landscaping services to Newnan, Georgia homeowners who reside in the Urban Redevelopment Area within the city limits. The Newnan Urban Redevelopment Agency (NURA) is able to assist with the exterior painting and certain minor repairs, as well as yard work and landscaping.
The selection of a property and the scope of work will be determined by NURA. NURA selects (if at all possible) senior citizens who reside in the Urban Redevelopment Area. To qualify, the property owner must reside at the property and the property must not be a rental property.
The agency completed a successful spring 2019 Paint Day on May 4 with 20 volunteers who teamed together with the Newnan Urban Redevelopment Agency (NURA). With only one day of service, volunteers were able to dedicated six hours to complete tasks such as painting the house, landscape maintenance and general cleanup.
Organizations involved were East Coweta High School, the City of Newnan and RiverLife. Zion Hill Baptist Church provided parking for the volunteers, while Lowe's of Newnan provided a discount on supplies used for the project.
"Each year, we're always grateful for the amount of community support and outreach that we get from organizations who dedicate their effort and time in helping to make these events such a success," said Tracy Dunnavant, director of Planning & Zoning for the City of Newnan.
Past projects included home improvement efforts on Wheat Street, Pinson Street, Salbide Avenue and the Housing Authority's Charlie Neal Homes complex located off Boone Drive.
